Driving to Birling Gap from Brighton

Birling Gap is situated 19 miles east of Brighton. You can travel either via the A259 along the seafront through Saltdean, Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford which is around 47 minutes an 18.9 miles. Alternatively you can drive on the A27, through Falmer, past Lewes, Selmeston and Alfriston which is around 47 minutes and 24 miles.

If you are coming to Birling Gap from London you can come down the A27 and pick up the route from Brighton.

Getting the train from Brighton to Birling Gap

You can get the train from Brighton to Lewes, then from Lewes to Eastbourne. From there you can get the 12 Coaster Bus from Eastbourne Station to Birling Gap. This route will take around 1 hour and 33 minutes.

Hastings to Birling Gap

Driving to Birling Gap from Hastings

Birling Gap is 23.4 miles west of Hastings. You travel on the A259 through Bexhill, past Normans Bay and Pevensey and then take the A27 through Polegate and down through Friston, East Dean and finally to Birling Gap which should take around 46 minutes.

Getting the train from Hastings to Birling Gap

You can get the train from Hastings to Eastbourne and then the number 12 Coaster Bus from Eastbourne Station to Birling Gap which should take around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Tunbridge Wells to Birling Gap

Driving to Birling Gap from Tunbridge Wells

The quickest route from Tunbridge Wells to Birling Gap is straight down the A267 through Mayfield, Hailsham, Polegate, Jevington, Friston and East Dean. This should take you around 56 minutes and is 32.2 miles.

Alternatively you could travel via the A26 through Crowborough, Maresfield and Uckfield and then join the A22 at Lower Dicker, then down through Hailsham, Polegate, Jevington, Friston and East Dean. This is slightly longer at 36.2 miles and will take around 1 hour 4 minutes.

The A26 and A22 is the route you would take if you were coming from Uckfield which is 20.6 miles and should take around 39 minutes.

Getting the train from Tunbridge Wells to Birling Gap

You can either get the train from Tunbridge Wells to Brighton and then the 13X Tourist Trail bus from Brighton to Birling Gap. This will take you around 2 hours 44 minutes.

Alternatively, you can get the train from Tunbridge Wells to Eastbourne and then get the 12 Coaster bus from Eastbourne to Birling Gap. This will take around 2 hours and 20 minutes.
